Highfield / Highfield - Music and Law

Accounting and Finance

Our programmes give you the opportunity to apply learning in real-world contexts. Exemptions are available from professional examinations from ICAEW, ACCA, AIA, CIMA and CIPFA.

Our BSc Accounting and Finance will give you an excellent working knowledge of accounting and finance theory and methods. You will learn how to prepare and interpret financial and managerial information and will gain a theoretical and practical understanding of investment and finance.

The BSc Accounting and Finance with placement programme is similar to our existing BSc Accounting and Finance, with the addition of a one-year placement in year three in an approved industrial setting, giving you a chance to understand how the theoretical side of the qualification is applied in real business scenarios. Your placement year is dependent on your module results; we cannot guarantee a placement as provision is under the control of employers.

Business programmes at Southampton are considered to be among the best in the UK, with 96 per cent of our students satisfied with the quality of the course (NSS, 2013).

Our BSc Business Entrepreneurship provides a broad appreciation of business theory and practice, combined with specialist knowledge of entrepreneurship. It will develop key skills, such as problem-solving, communication, self-management and teamwork, and will enable you to operate at a strategic level in a variety of organisations or even set up your own company.

A central theme is entrepreneurial behaviour and how this relates to innovation, opportunity recognition and development, and new venture creation. You will be able to choose optional modules from Business, as well as a language or other approved subjects.
