Our British Psychological Society accredited undergraduate Psychology courses will introduce you to the various areas of contemporary psychology: cognitive, developmental, clinical, and social, plus training in research methods and data analyses.

The Shackelton Building is where most of the Psychology and Geography and Environment courses are taught.

Geography - taught courses

Geography at Southampton is one of Britain's leading centres for geographical research, with excellent facilities, a strong publication record, and a thriving research culture.

We offer a range of taught masters programmes to expand your knowledge and consider how we can address some of today’s major global challenges.

Our innovative MSc Applied Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing combines the areas of remote sensing and spatial analysis, giving scope for a broad overview or specialisation. It focuses on real-world problems by applying technology to areas such as public health and environmental management.

Alternatively, our applied, interdisciplinary programme MSc Sustainability explores sustainability in both developed and developing societies. It focuses on the global issues affecting the planet, including climate change and extreme events, social and health inequalities, poverty and resilience, global migration patterns, and sustainable business pathways.

Geography - research

We are one of the UK’s leading centres for geographical research, with excellent resources and a strong publication and research grant record.

Our three postgraduate research programmes includes the PhD in Psychology, often a route to an career in academia and industry. Trainees on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology mix taught elements with research components on their way to becoming Clinical Psychologists. Students on the Doctorate in Educational Psychology prepare for a professional qualification that enables them to help children, families and education providers.

Environmental Geoscience

Explore the different processes that drive the global Earth system, on land, in the ocean, in the crust and in the atmosphere. You’ll combine geology, geography and oceanography, and develop a wide range of practical and transferable skills.

Our interdisciplinary degree will open up exciting career options in a range of fields. As an environmental geoscientist you’ll be able to assess the impact of human activity on the planet and society and work to mitigate this impact and find solutions for our future.

With this degree you'll discover the fundamental science that underpins the global Earth system. You'll study different disciplines and gain an extensive knowledge of Earth, marine and environmental sciences. You can choose to study a Geoscience or Marine pathway through this programme.

The human impact on the environment and its natural resources is an important focus for the course. In your third year you can specialise in either marine or terrestrial aspects of the Earth system.
