Explore the science of how drugs can treat disease in humans and animals with Southampton's BSc Pharmacology degree.

This programme examines molecular aspects of how drugs can be used to treat disease in humans and animals as scientists seek an improved quality of life for all. Recent advances in this area have resulted in better treatments for AIDS, depression, heart failure and malaria.

You will work alongside scientists engaged in cutting-edge research and learn the major concepts and principles of pharmacology in years one and two through core topics, before completing a research project of your own in your third year.

You will also have the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge you learn into practice by spending a year out in the pharmaceutical industry.

Discover how zoology can be applied to the key challenges affecting our planet today, from the effects of global warming on animal life, to the ecological impact of populations and animals, and the survival of endangered species.

Based in our state-of-the-art Life Sciences building, you will take part in a field trip to Spain in year one and participate in a research team working at the cutting-edge of zoology.

Our BSc and MSci Zoology courses provide broad training in the zoological sciences, while allowing you to select modules from other disciplines, including oceanography, computer sciences and languages. You will have the opportunity to specialise in cell/developmental or ecological/evolutionary zoology in year three. You can also choose between a laboratory-based or field research projects, with fieldwork undertaken in the UK or abroad.

Ecology and Conservation

Develop your passion for the natural environment and equip yourself with the skills to help protect our planet with Southampton’s BSc and MSci Ecology and Conservation programmes.

Based in our state-of-the-art Life Sciences building, these courses will give you the opportunity to develop a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of life from molecules and cells, to whole organisms and ecosystems.

These are truly hands-on degrees offering fieldwork in locations as diverse as Spain and Belize, where you will be able to put the theory you learn into practice and develop all important research skills. These research skills will be put to use in your final year when you conduct an original research project. If you choose to take the MSci programme you will also have an advanced in-depth project to complete in your fourth and final year.
